Nature of Work or Scope and Results

In this assignment, the equipment/spare parts/maintenance inventory for this major plant was spread over two separated warehouses and 6 separate maintenance work areas spread across a 1500 acre site. SCG was engaged to physically analyze and measure the entire inventory. With a goal to reduce the client company's inventory investment, SCG evaluated their computerized inventory records and recommended a detailed analysis of several groups of materials. Our measurement and analysis of the physical inventory lead to SCG recommending the kinds and types of inventory to be stored in a centralized warehouse. The hazardous and flammable main-tenance materials were also analyzed during this project phase.

Using the analysis of the inventory size recommended, equipment/space utilization factors, and other growth factors, SCG sized a 60,000 square foot centralized storeroom, designed the ware-house and developed all of the storage media and material handling equipment specifications. SCG did extensive cost and pay back analysis comparing different alternatives. The warehouse was built by a contractor on a design and build type contract. The storage aids and equipment was purchased based upon SCG specifications.

The warehouse is operational and working well.
